The Utilities Telecom Council is ditching "telecom" for "technology" while the Private Equity Growth Capital Council is adopting a new name that is a little easier to remember.
UTC announced Monday that its board of directors adopted Utilities Technology Council as the Washington, D.C.-based group's new name. The association also has launched a new website and updated its logo.
At the same time, PEGCC announced a name change to the American Investment Council, a new title that reflects the increasing diversity of the private equity firms it represents.
"The American Investment Council represents the full spectrum of private investment and the value it creates for every state in our country," AIC CEO Mike Sommers said. "It is more than a new name, it is a renewed commitment to be the voice for private equity in the United States."
AIC also has revamped its website—www.investmentcouncil.org—to reflect the new name and to streamline searches.
For UTC, the new name "preserves the UTC initials to leverage existing brand equity, while expanding UTC's focus beyond telecom and addressing the multitude of technology advancements our industry is facing every day," said Bobbi Harris, vice president for market strategy and development at UTC.
"By changing our name to reflect the changing environment of utilities, UTC is keeping pace with the industry and the issues that our members are facing," she added.
The new name also reflects recent efforts by the association to expand membership to IT professionals, UTC said in news release about the name change.
The name change is not the only new development at UTC. Joy Ditto joined the association as CEO April 27, having previously worked as a lobbyist for the American Public Power Association.
